American Football remains one of the fastest growing sports in the United Kingdom, and the Scunthorpe Alphas are proud to offer local youngsters the chance to play the game and emulate their favourite NFL stars for FREE!

That's right. There are ZERO subscription fees for youngsters when they join the Academy. Our senior players and monies made on Alphas gamedays help fund our academy to ensure no youngster is priced out of playing.

Alphas chairman Warwick Grosvenor said:

"We are incredibly proud of our youth programme and the players it has produced. Our Under 19 and Under 16 teams have gone from strength to strength, with individuals from both teams being selected to represent Great Britain. In 2023 our Under 16 team reached the National Plate Finals.

"A key priority of the team is to continue to develop our youth programme. We want to be one of the best teams in the country, and that is why we committed to charging zero subs to any youth player. All we want to do is give young people the opportunity to play and compete in the sport that we love. What we can promise is high level coaching that may take youngsters to the heady heights of Great Britain levels and beyond."

THE ALPHAS ACADEMY FAQs
WHAT AGE GROUPS CAN PLAY AMERICAN FOOTBALL?
​
The Scunthorpe Alphas welcome youngsters, both boys and girls, aged between seven and 19. We currently run three different teams; two contact and one non-contact. Contact teams are Under 16s (13+) and Under 19s, while the non-contact team, also known as Flag Football, is for children aged from seven to 14 years old.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

You need suitable clothing, footwear and a gumshield for practice sessions. We take care of the rest. So yes, you won't need to buy a helmet or pads.
WHEN IS PRACTICE BE HELD?
​
Practice sessions are held at Quibell Park on Sundays. Sessions typically start at 12:15pm, with the time changed to 10:00am when the senior team have a game that day. You can get directions to Quibell Park HERE.
ARE THE COACHES QUALIFIED AND SAFETY-CHECKED?
​
Yes. All of our coaches have undergone DBS checks and have earned coaching qualifications from the British American Football Coaches Association.
