Scunthorpe Alphas youngsters Jay Robinson, Jake Marriott and Riley Read will be part of the Great Britain U17s team set to face Spain in Zaragoza later this month.
The talented trio, who will look to break through to the Scunthorpe Alphas senior team in the coming years, will have the opportunity to make a name for themselves on the European football scene when they step out at the San Iñigo de Calatayud Football Field on Sunday, November 17th.
“I am beyond proud of the three young men representing not just their nation, but the Alphas, against Spain,” said Alphas chairman Warwick Grosvenor.
“I can vouch for how hard they have all worked for this, the amount of talent they have, and as a result, how much they deserve it. I have seen all three of them grow as young men as well as players (Jay and Jake as members of our team, Riley as an opponent), and there are few players as capable and dedicated as these three.
“They are all a credit to the Alphas badge, as well as to themselves, their parents, and British American Football. I absolutely expect them to light up the field in November - remember the names; Read, Marriott and Robinson. They’re gonna get called a LOT by the commentators.”
The Scunthorpe Alphas congratulate all three players on their call-up, and we would also like to thank Shaun Sargent and sponsors STAIT for the generous sponsorship of the players, and the continued support of the club.
Jay Robinson
Jay is one of the longest-serving members of the Great Britain U17 set up, having been one of the youngest players to travel to Austria and represent GB upon their revival a few years ago.
He made his mark in that game, moving the chains on multiple catches, demonstrating both elusiveness and power with the ball in hand. He started at receiver in that game and has started every GB game since, solidifying his position as one of the top GB U17 receiver talents around.
At the Alphas, Jay was also a member of the first ever U16 team, scoring the team’s first ever touchdown, and leading them in scoring ever since. This will be Jay’s final GB U17 game, coming full circle and finishing his run as one of the oldest in the team before he moves up to U19.
Jake Marriott
Jake joined the Alphas two years ago, and rapidly demonstrated phenomenal talent at the linebacker position.
He is a ferocious tackler but is also a ball hawk, displaying an uncanny knack of locating the football in the air. Jake cuts an imposing figure, at around 6’2, 210lbs, but flies to the football.
Having played for Great Britain against Norway last year, he is looking to start against Spain and really make his mark. Jake led the Alphas U17s in tackles in 2023.
Riley Read
Riley recently transferred to the Alphas to play in the U19 squad in 2025.
At 6’2, 230 lbs, Riley is a mix of speed, power, and technique, and throughout his U17 career he terrorised opposition centres, including the Alphas’, who know first-hand that he is the sort of player that requires scheming against.
Riley was named in the 2023 team of the year by Elite Britain and was part of the GB U17 squad that beat Norway 39-0 in Oslo. Fast-forward to today and, as one of the longest-serving members of the team, he looks to start again against Spain in November.
